The Practice of Yoga

INFLUENCES

Anisha's style of teaching is influenced by Kripalu, Anusara and Vinyasa yoga, which are all schools of Hatha Yoga.  She uniquely blends safe alignment principles of the body, heart-centered-ness, and meditation in motion.  Her classes are both invigorating and rejuvenating, ending with a deep relaxation to integrate the practice.

Within Anisha's style, all levels of ability and yoga experience are honored for their unique differences, limitations, and talents.  Her class has a compassionate approach, emphasizing meditation, body awareness, and spiritual transformation that overflows into daily life.  In a class, each student learns to find her or her own level of practice on a given day by looking inward.

Yoga is probably one of the most popular mind/body exercises in the United States today, credited with bringing thousands restored health, freedom from pain, increased vitality and a tranquil, balanced mind.

CLASS TYPES

Restorative yoga is a delicious way to way to relax and soothe frayed nerves.  Restorative classes use bolsters, blankets, and blocks to prop students in passive poses so that the body can experience the benefits of a pose without having to exert any effort.  A good restorative class can be more rejuvenating than a nap.

Vinyasa yoga comes from the Sanskrit word for "flow" or “breath synchronized movement”.  Anisha’s vinyasa class is a fluid, movement-intensive practices focusing on transitions from pose to pose and the marriage of breath and movement, yet no two classes are alike.

Kripalu Yoga is a gentle hatha yoga practice with a compassionate approach and emphasis on meditation, physical healing and spiritual transformation that overflows from the yoga mat into daily life.  Over time, students are taught to observe their thoughts without judging and to accept and love themselves as they are.  In a Kripalu class, each student learns to find their own level of practice by looking inward and listening to their body’s guidance.  The classes usually begin with pranayama (breathing exercises), pratapana (gentle stretches) followed by asana practice (yoga poses) and ending with savasana (final relaxation).

Pangu Yoga is a simple yet powerful practice of Yoga, grounded in love and kindness, deepening our connection with the Divine.  Through an authentic fusion of Yoga and Qi gong, Anisha will take you on a spiritual journey, cultivating your life force, liberating the Spirit, and powerfully unveiling the healing Qi within the movements of Yoga.

Chair - Assisted yoga is aclass specifically designed to work with people who experience limited mobility.  A chair is used in place of a mat, becoming an extension of your body, to allow for yoga’s restorative, health and conditioning potentials.  The class explores gentle stretching, balance, coordination, breathing, meditation, and relaxation, all within each person’s comfortable range.  People of all ages and ranges of mobility are encouraged to participate in Anisha’s chair yoga class.  Caregivers are welcome at no extra cost should an assistant be needed for your success in this class.

Prenatal yoga: During your pregnancy it’s important to set aside time for yourself.  Prenatal yoga gives expecting moms the opportunity to relax, stretch, breathe, and connect with their baby.  Anisha’s classes will help you ease the discomforts of your pregnancy and help prepare your body for childbirth.  Practicing yoga with other pregnant women can be a great time to meet fellow moms and build friendships and a support system.  The relationships created in our classes can benefit you and your baby post delivery.
